    Description

Christmas Puddings and Winter Desserts in Jars?  Yes, its true….you can!

Using the Fowlers Vacola preserving system, we will show you how to cook your Christmas puddings in a standard Fowlers jar and preserve them safely to create a shelf-stable product that will age beautifully in the run up to Christmas.  Alternatively you can apply the same skill to create heat-and-eat desserts and puddings.

Marieka and Sheralee will be working with standard Christmas pudding recipes and will show you how to prepare, fill and process your jars for excellent results.  We will also talk you through how to modify your favourite cake or pudding recipe to create shelf stable and ready-to-go winter desserts.

Workshop topics will also include how to pack jars into your processor, processing times, tutorials for how to open jars, and may include us eating one we prepared earlier……..

    How safe is preserving?
This food skill is more than 100 years old, and modern science has given us the benefit of understanding exactly how safe it is.  Those Barossa Girls work within food safety guidelines set down by regulatory bodies, and we will not advocate or teach practices that are not proven.  Fowlers Vacola bottling is a proven and safe method that relies on some very simple rules to eliminate the possibility of food spoilage or pathogens.  It is important that home preservers understand the importance of safe food practices, and we will teach you how to apply those simple rules to your preserving.
