Rolling Up Their Sleeves
Four years in the research and writing, Rolling Up Their Sleeves is the most important project in our regional food scene for more than two decades.
It captures the stories of the remarkable women in our history, the recipes they used to build a community and perpetuates their legacy in a book that honours our rich Barossa culture.
Part social history, part cookbook, this book weaves storytelling and food in equal measure, perpetuating our heritage, and passing it forward to a new generation.
THOSE BAROSSA GIRLS
preserving, heritage recipes & traditional food skills
We are the keepers
WE ARE THE KEEPERS
The dictionary defines a ‘keeper’ as a person charged with responsibility for the preservation and conservation of something valuable, but being a keeper is also a doing word.
We are the keepers. The keepers of the traditional food skills, the regional food stories, the new ways of doing old valuable things. And every year, at this time and in this season, we lead the way.
You. Me. Us.
We are the keepers.
Preserving
using the fowlers vacola method
Preserving is a traditional food skill that allows you to take seasonal produce and create a pantry item that lasts all year-round. Its sustainable, economical, nutritious, and surprisingly easy!
What our workshop attendees are saying
“I’m new to preserving and got so much out of this workshop. Marieka & Sheralee answered all of our questions and I can’t wait to get started with my new preserving kit. Thank you Those Barossa Girls!”

Inspiring a new generation of cooks
ARE YOU A KEEPER?
We love old recipes, the recipe books that hold them, the people who keep them, and the traditional skills you need to create them. We want to create a community of people who recognise their value and refuse to let them die.
